The Minister of Agriculture, Florin-Ionuț Barbu, represented Romania at the informal meeting of European Union agriculture ministers, held in Copenhagen, where he conveyed the position of Romanian farmers and the strategic priorities for the future of the agri-food sector.

During the debates, Minister Barbu emphasized the need to strengthen the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and presented five key directions for the sustainable development of European agriculture:

  1. Maintaining the Common Agricultural Policy with a distinct and consistent budget to support all agricultural sectors.
  2. Supporting the processing of agricultural raw materials at the local level to create value-added products.
  3. Developing and financing risk management systems as a response to the effects of climate change.
  4. Continuing investments in irrigation infrastructure, with a focus on modern technologies and efficiency.
  5. Financial incentives for young farmers to encourage younger generations to develop businesses in agriculture.

“I thank all the farmers who gave me the mandate to represent them at the European level! Investment development in the agri-food sector must be a strategic priority of the European Commission, in order to ensure the food security of the European Union,” stated Minister Florin-Ionuț Barbu.

These proposals reflect Romania’s commitment to a competitive, resilient, and sustainable European agriculture, capable of ensuring the European Union’s food security and the balanced development of rural areas.

The meeting in Copenhagen brought together agriculture ministers from EU member states, representatives of the European Commission, and professional organizations, providing a framework for debating current and future challenges in the European agricultural sector.
