ANPC Issues Consumer Safety Guidelines for May 1st
Celebrations
As every year, Romanians celebrate May 1st (Labor Day)
with the traditional grilled mici (minced meat rolls) and beer.
To ensure this occasion remains one of joy and not regret, Paul Anghel,
Director General of the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC),
shares the following recommendations for safe food consumption and responsible
purchasing:
When Buying Food Products:
-
Inspect
minced meat carefully for freshness, texture, and color.
-
Do
not purchase unlabelled products. Labels must include allergen
information and expiration dates.
-
Reject
products with missing, altered, or expired labels.
-
Avoid
buying minced meat from unauthorized vendors, as this poses serious
health risks.
-
Check
the packaging integrity, clarity of the product, and expiration date.
If You Celebrate in Public Recreation Areas:
-
Ensure
that products are kept in functioning refrigerated display units.
-
Packaging
must be intact, and labels must provide complete information.
-
Vendors
must be properly equipped and adhere to hygiene standards.
-
Confirm
that the displayed prices match those on the receipt.
-
Always
request and keep your fiscal receipt – it is your only proof in
case of a justified complaint.
Past Inspections Have Revealed Serious Violations,
Including:
-
Sale
of expired or unlabelled products.
-
Food
offered for consumption with signs of mold.
-
Use of
burnt oil and unsanitized cooking utensils.
-
Failure
to maintain appropriate storage temperatures and hygienic
conditions.
-
Lack
of information regarding allergens or product origin (fresh vs.
previously frozen).
By following these safety tips, you can enjoy a safe and
pleasant 1st of May celebration, while supporting responsible vendors and
protecting your health.
