Tetra Pak has reported a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain since 2019, as well as a 47% reduction in emissions within its own operations, according to the company's latest Sustainability Report.

Progress Towards Net Zero Emissions

Tetra Pak's achievements so far indicate that the company is "on track" to reach its goal of net-zero GHG emissions in its own operations by 2030. The company is also working with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders to achieve net-zero GHG emissions across the entire value chain by 2050.

Importance of Collaboration

Adolfo Orive, President and CEO of Tetra Pak, emphasized the growing importance of collaboration in the food industry to sustainably feed a growing population. He highlighted the company's global presence and end-to-end solutions as key opportunities to work with stakeholders worldwide, including farmers, food producers, suppliers, policymakers, consumers, and others.

Orive stated, "We understand the responsibility that comes with this role. We remain committed to playing our part in transforming the world's food systems to ensure they are safer, more resilient, and more sustainable."

Recent Milestones

Tetra Pak has achieved several notable milestones, including the development of a new aseptic beverage carton with a paper-based barrier that reduces the product's carbon footprint by one-third. This innovation was the result of a €100 million investment in packaging research and development last year, with similar investments planned annually over the next five to ten years.

Sustainability Report Highlights

The Sustainability Report outlines key achievements, such as:

  • Assisting 64 million children in 49 countries to access milk and other nutritious beverages through school feeding programs.
  • Increasing the amount of carton packages collected and sent for recycling globally by 7% compared to 2022.
  • Raising the volume of PolyAl (polyethylene-aluminium) sent for recycling by 14%.

Tetra Pak has been included in the CDP Forests "A List" for the eighth consecutive year and received an "A-" rating in Water Security, despite it being the first year of reporting in this area.

These achievements underline Tetra Pak's ongoing commitment to sustainability and its efforts to drive significant environmental progress across the food and packaging industries.
